Review: Aditya Roy Kapur excels in crime-romance 'Gumraah', Mrunal Thakur impresses as cop

Gumraah, starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Mrunal Thakur, and Ronit Roy, weaves a gripping tale of identical twins, Sooraj and Ronnie (both played by Aditya), whose reckless mistakes lead them into a vortex of murder, mystery, and crime. As their haunting past resurfaces, it threatens to shatter or salvage the twisted gamble of this thrilling crime drama.

Gumraah is a crime thriller film starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Mrunal Thakur, Ronit Roy, Vedika Pinto, and Deepak Kalra.

The film narrates the story of two identical twins, Ronnie and Arjun Sehgal, who have different personalities and lifestyles. After they become major suspects in a murder case, the police discover that they are identical twins, leaving them shocked.

Gumraah is a remake of the 2019 film Thadam, which follows the story of twin brothers, Ronnie and Arjun Sehgal, who lead vastly different lives. However, they are both implicated in a murder case and become the primary suspects of the investigation led by Shivani and Dhiren. As evidence mounts against one of the twins, the investigation takes a dramatic turn when it is revealed that there are two identical suspects. The film takes the audience on a journey back in time to unravel the mystery of the murder.

Aditya Roy Kapur delivers a commendable performance as both Ronnie and Arjun. He plays the roles seamlessly, but there are moments when his portrayal feels half-baked and rushed. Mrunal Thakur shines as Shivani Mathur, a smart and observant inspector who fights against the system. Ronit Roy and Deepak Kalra give noteworthy performances as supporting characters, while Vedika Pinto impresses in her limited screen time as Arjun's love interest.

The film's direction and storytelling are sharp, clean, and up to the mark, with believable action sequences and romantic scenes. The film deals with casual sexism, childhood trauma, addiction, and the pain of separation.

Overall, Gumraah is a gripping crime thriller with a strong cast and an intriguing plot that keeps the audience engaged until the very end. While there are some flaws in the performances, the film succeeds in delivering a satisfying and unpredictable conclusion.
