Russell Crowe stars in The Pope's Exorcist, a movie about a Vatican-chosen exorcist who is tasked with ridding a young boy of demonic possession. Despite the promising premise, the movie falls short on scares and leaves much to be desired. The story follows Henry, his mother Julia, and sister Amy, who inherit a medieval monastery in Italy after the death of their father. However, they soon discover that the catacombs beneath the building contain a powerful biblical demon that possesses Henry and demands the presence of a priest. Father Gabriele Amorth, played by Crowe, is called in to perform the exorcism but soon realizes that there is a greater evil at play within the abbey. As the movie progresses, it becomes clear that Father Amorth has been lured into a trap, and the true purpose behind the possession is revealed.
