Shark Tank India Season 2: Namita Thapar discusses her IVF failures

Since it first aired on TV, Shark Tank India 2 has been in the news, sometimes for the funny banter between the sharks, sometimes for the sharks teaching the pitchers a lesson, and sometimes for the pitchers making the sharks think about their own problems. Six judges, or "Sharks," like Vineeta Singh, Aman Gupta, Anupam Mittal, Peyush Bansal, Amit Jain, and Namita Thapar, appear on the show. In one of the most recent episodes, Namita Thapar talked about a hard time in her life.

Vikram Rajput, Sohan Sahu, and Chandan Prasad of Subhag HealthTech, the second pitcher, talk about infertility, the taboos around it, and how people don't talk about it freely. Before making their pitch, they tell a true story. They show the sharks their IUI home kit, which allows infertile couples to try the test at home. They ask for Rs 50 lakhs in 1% equity and a valuation of Rs 50 crores. They also talk about how they got their business started and about their own lives. On the show, the product is also shown off to the sharks.

Namita Thapar on her failed IVF attempts

After hearing the pitch, shark Namita Thapar said that she had to go through two failed IVF attempts during her second pregnancy because she couldn't get pregnant. She said on the show, "When I was 28, I wanted to get pregnant, and I did so in two months. After that, I had a normal pregnancy. But for 3 to 4 years, I tried to get pregnant and couldn't. I had two treatments for infertility, which included 25 injections and a lot of emotional and physical pain. Even the taboo things that keep your legs up, like crossing your legs. I already have kids, so I can't imagine what parents who don't have kids go through. I gave up after two tries and said, "I'm happy with one child.'"

Namita went on to say that she got pregnant on her own because of a miracle. But the IVF process stuck with her, and for ten years she couldn't talk about it in public. Only recently did she decide to talk about it, and when she did, the people backed her up. She said, "I listened to my heart, and I talked about it for the first time. I also wrote about it in my book."

The sharks thought it was great that Namita told them about her journey. At last, Vineeta and Namita each make their own offer. Namita takes the pitchers with her. She made an offer of Rs 20 crores for 1% equity and Rs 30 lakhs in debt at a valuation of Rs 20 crores for 10% equity and 1% equity.
